Speaker Plateau State House of Assembly accused of diverting constituency funds




THE Plateau state House of Assembly has refuted the claim by a group of youth in Jos-North went constituency that its speaker Rt Hon. Peter Ajang Azi has diverted his constituency fund to his personal use.
This came to light in a motion on adjournment brought before the House by the member representing Shendam Constituency and the majority under Hon. Henry Yunkwap.
Speaking on the motion Hon. Yunkwap said the attention of the House has been drawn to a paper of a press conference alleging that the speaker of the House has diversely his constituency fund to personal use by building a mansion in Dong Village and it also described the House of Assembly as unproductive.
Hon. Yankwap said that the condense of the press conference were people that do of know the working of the state legislators.
He stressed that no kobo was given to any member of the House to any constituency project adding that they did was to identify the projects on needs in their constituency and the executive arm will award the contract.
On the allegation that the legislative arm was unproductive, he said this showed how ignorant conveners of the press conference were as the House since it was inaugurated in jump 2015 has passed ten bills worth another ten at their finishing stages were as 20 motion and 22 meters if urgent public importance have been passed by the House.
The majority leaders stressed that the House has passed bills into laws especially those that the state needed to regain its peaceful nature and that has helped to stabilized the polity.
While pleading with the people in the state to ignore such false information, he urged them to acquaint themselves with information about the constitutional role of the legislature before misleading role of the legislature before misleading the public.
In their contributions member of the House described the piece as campaign to damage the image of the 8th assembly and such cannot be done cheeping who presided over the sitting.
Speaking on the motion the Deputy speaker Rt Hon Yusuf Adamu Gade who said though democracy allows freedom of speech, but advised that privilege should not be taken for granted.
He reiterated that the responsibility of the legislative arm of government has to make laws, representation and oversight functions but not to executive protects, adding that he saw no reason why with such function on the legislator he/she can collect fund from government talk more of diverting it
