Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Olufemi Bamiro was shot and wounded by gunmen in a failed kidnap attempt, on Tuesday, October 4th at Oluyole area of Ibadan.
The spokesman of the Oyo Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, who confirmed the incident said Mr. Bamiro was rescued by the prompt intervention of police officers from the Oluyole Division of the command in response to a distress call.
The former VC, who was shot on the right foot was taken to UCH where he is currently receiving treatment, according to a report by Premium Times.
Mr. Ajisebutu also disclosed that the Police Commissioner, Sam Adegbuyi, has ordered the anti-kidnapping squad to go after the gunmen.
A first class graduate and professor of Mechanical Engineering, Bamiro was the 10th vice chancellor of UI.
