Plateau State Govt Plans 22,500 Housing Units.
PLATEAU State Government, has concluded plans for the foundation laying of over twenty two thousand, five hundred (22,500) housing units spread across nine (9) sites by next month to ease the accommodation needs of citizens in the state.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Malam Muhammad Nazif, disclosed this at the monthly Ministerial Media briefing for the month of November, held at the conference Hall of his Ministry at the J.D. Gomwalk Secretariat in Jos.
He said, “Government is concerned about shelter for its citizens. In this regard, it has signed MoUs with developers under the Public Private Sector Participation cheme to construct 22,500 housing units at nine sites. The Executive Governor has already approved the appointment of FHA Mortgage Bank, Abuja as the primary mortgage institution for the housing program to commence immediately.
We are also happy to say that our desire to keep our roads motorable has been boosted with the arrival of two road patchers. This had earlier been procured by the Ministry of Housing and Urban
Development and are now for inspection. I wish to inform you too that contract for the re-habilitation of the 6Km Angwan Rogo road network will soon be awarded, in addition to many others within the Jos/Bukuru Metropolis” he added.
Sequel to this, the Commissioner also revealed that, over fourteen billion, one hundred and sixty million naira requested by the state government for the Budget support facility, approved by FG to enhance the execution of projects was the focus of their discussion at the November 4th State Executive Council meeting.
Under the Ministry of Works and Transport, Malam Nazif said, “contract for 16 more roads projects have been advertised. They are; Maraban Demshin-Shimankar road with spur to Shargan-Angwan Rina-Angwan Dadi Kalong-Nyak road; Dokan Tofa-Ba’ap Kurgwi road with spurs to Lardan, Bwal, Kwoor and Tim; Wase-Kadarko-Dadin Kowa road; Dengi-Bashar-Gajin Bashar road; Dengi-Kwalmiya Dugub-Gagdi road; Dawaki-Gyangyang –Seri-Amper road and Lankang-Dyis-Kagu-Sihin road.
“Others are; Mangu Bye Pass; Kuba-Tenti- Maunga-Daffo road; Kposho-Chakarum-Kogom-Vwang road with spur to Vom Vet; Bet-Dorowa-Mazat-Kuba road with spur to Nding; Fobur-Naton-Fursa-Maijuju-Zandi road; Tahoss-Ganawuri road with spur to Dahreng; Wase-Maro-Gimbi road; and Lohmak-Gazum with spur to Kumkwam respectively”, he listed.
Meanwhile, in the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Development, the Commissioner revealed that the World Bank has released over $2mllion for the Nigeria Erosion and watershed Management (NEWMAP) project, following the payment of over N30m as counterpart fund by Plateau State Government in that regard.
