The police on Monday arraigned a 38- year-old woman, Juliet Ajagun,
in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over attempt to steal a
child in a mosque.
The woman, a trader, who resides at No. 20, Abuke St., Ijegun, suburb
of Lagos, is facing two-count charge of stealing and causing breach of
peace.
The prosecutor, Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offences were committed at Muyi Opaleye St., Ijegun, on December 12.
Mr. Ogu said that the defendant went to a Mosque and took away a child while the mother was praying.
He added that the defendant was sighted by one of the women in the
congregation who raised an alarm and Ms. Ajagun was apprehended
immediately.
Mr. Ogu said the defendant was handed over to the police, noting that
the offences contravened sections 168 (d) and 277 (b) of the Criminal
Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty and the Chief Magistrate,
Taiwo Akanni, granted her bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties
in like sum.
Akanni adjourned the case until January 31, 2018 for mention.
