Nigerian Police Force Brutality

THERE was a massive hold up along Numan-Gombe road following the manhandling of a trailer driver by men of the Police Force last Friday evening to about 10:00am of Saturday around Ngbalang village near Savannah Sugar Company.
Reports have it that the trailer driver was coming from the side of Gombe towards Yola when the incident happened.
According to the driver (name withheld on request), the policemen stopped him and then demanded for money which he flatly refused to give them as he said he hadn’t at that moment.
He revealed that the policemen now dragged him out of the vehicle and beat him up which led to his being admitted at the Numan General Hospital for treatment.
The reports further said that no sooner did other trailer drivers who usually gather at Ngbalang where they take their rest got wind of the incident jumped up and moved to the area and blocked the road with their vehicles thereby causing a serious hold up.
Vehicles plying the major Federal highway became stranded as the trailer drivers swore to fight back over what that claimed was injustice and intimidation by Policemen at roadblocks.

When the State Governor got wind of the incident, he quickly dispatched his deputy, Engineer Martins Babale to the scene, and on arrival to the scene, he was told by the Hama Bachama His Royal Highness Honest Stephen that the issue has been settled with the Police who have agreed to pay for the damage they caused.
The policemen were said to have shot at the vehicle tyre and smashed the windscreen of the trailer.
The Deputy Governor then commended the traditional ruler for settling the matter and hoped that nothing similar happens again.
Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Samuel Gangwaja who also confirmed the story  said the Deputy Governor was happy that the issue was resolved.
But effort to get the Police Public Relations Officer S.P Othman Abubakar failed as several calls to his line proved abortive as his phone keeps saying he cannot be reached.\
