IRKED by what it considered the ill treatment of Plateau State indigenes
in Nigeria Television College Jos, The Plateau State House of Assembly
has moved to address the matter by asking its house adhoc committee on
public account and petition to liaise with some relevant authorities to
address the mater.
This decision
came to light during the plenary of the House in a motion of urgent
public importance tabled by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gardi,
when the Assembly resumed from recess yesterday.
Presenting the
motion before the House Hon. Gagdi said that in recent time some
developments concerning Plateau State indigenes in the institution are
of great and grave concern to the people of the state which has resisted
in a peaceful demonstration by the students of the institution that are
from the state.
Going down memory lane, Hon Gadgi said that since
the institution was established in 1980, no indigene of the state has
ever heated it despite the contributions of this state to the
institution through the provision of a free land and their things.
He explained that the recent development in the institution which was
perpetrated by the outgoing rector who transferred all the most senior
state indigenes working in the institution and who by virtue of their
ranks and education are eminently qualified to be appointed as rector of
the institution. This he said is an attempt to deny them the
opportunity to become rector.
Hon. Gadgi stressed that though the
institution is owned by the federal government the Assembly cannot sit
and watch while indigenes of the state are humiliated in the
institution.
Contributing to the debate the majority leader of the
House Hon. Henry Yunkwap said its time we get paid of our own cake in
the institution” adding that as the mouth-piece of the people of the
state the House will continue to speak on matters that concern the
state.
Member representing Langtang North North Hon. Godfrey Lamdip
also described the action of the outgoing Rector of NTA, TV Collelge as
corruption which the present government is fighting.
Others who
contributed supported the motion and called for relevant authority to
look into the issue and redress it without further delay.
The House
standing committee was therefore mandated to meet with the state
representative at the federal character commission and the state
representatives at the senate and the House of representative at the
senate and the House of representatives to look at the issue.
Meanwhile, in his address to the House after resumption from its recess,
the Speaker, Hon. Peter Azang Azi has appealed to the members to add
value to the already established achievements of the House since it was

If they are qualify they will head the school. Should someone who is not qualify handle a post just because the school is located in his/her state? Plateau people make we hear word abeg.
