Atiku Did Not Lie... We Know These Things.

By Udenenwu John Chike
'Those against the restructuring of Nigeria are lazy...'. Those were the solemn words of a former vice president; Atiku Abubakar. And this singular utterance have irked some of our northern leaders who have attacked Atiku ceaselessly, they've discredited him & have vowed to bring him to his knee. They had preferred he never spoke about the deplorable state of northern Nigeria. They had wished he sees the rot and turn a blind eye. Don't tell us our faults, just see it and remain silent. Let our people continue living in abject poverty and in mud houses so long as nobody knows about it and nobody speaks about it publicly.
Our shame is better managed when outsiders do not know about it. But one question I've continually ask is this, Is Atiku lying? Before we get furious and start lashing out on people who talk about the rot in our community, we must ask ourselves first ' If he is lying?' and if he isn't lying then we must swallow our pride & see it as a wakeup call. We must direct our anger & frustration to those responsible for the decay in our community. . If we are part of the problem, we change for good and turn a new leaf. we can even join our voices against those who exploit their almajiris on election days and abandon them on ascension to power . Atiku did not lie. All the indices are there, the disasters and chaos in northern Nigeria are virtually man-made. The mud houses Atiku talked about is that a lie? When we journey through towns/villages in most part of the north, we still see thousands of our own people living in dilapidated mud houses without electricity or clean water. Hunger and starvation are manifold...If it were not for the late sultan Dasuki (that was later dethroned) this current sultan of
sokoto would still be living in a mud palace. But instead of applauding the late sultan, our northern leaders fought him for building a state-of-art palace that is befitting for a revered islamic
leaders. We must ask ourselves about the Alhajis & Hajiyas fighting for positions in Abuja, how many of them have solid structures in their villages? How about factories and industries? Aside their penchant for exotic cars, extravagant wedding fatihas, and the reckless acquisition of propertiesabroad coupled with their luxurious lifestyle? What do they do for the vulnerable and almajiris whose mandate they held in trust? Their villages are still the poorest global ranking. They don't give a hoot about the rising almajiri menace in our community. Has any northern leader built a standard almajiri school anywhere in the north aside the ones built by Goodluck? The only time the almajiris ever matters is during election time. Their malams will be given crumbs to mobilize them. And afterwards they are lelt to their fate to die in perpetual servitude. The zamfara state government just slashed the salaries of its workers. Are we aware that most workers in the
state get as meager as 8,000 naira monthly? Meningitis, child mortality and other preventable diseases still rank highest in state why? These poor folks have been indoctrinated that penury cum disease is a consequence of their sins, hence they are subjugated to the worst kind of mental
slavery. Most northern women are not allowed to work. And our men cannot feed them or provide them with the welfare materials they need. So they starve with their children, some eventually resort to begging alms on our street. And our northern leaders fly about in their private jets, and
mega yatch....they give out handouts to only those that go to their houses to worship them....
How long shall we continue like this? Atiku did not lie. Yet they attack him like they did to emir of kano (sanusi lamido) when he advocated for a progressive northern Nigeria. They threaten to dethrone him. Yes, he was talking too much...They know these things but they don't want them mentioned to the hearing of outsiders. We must not let them know our shame, they think... Who are the outsiders? People from the south? Thought we are one Nigeria? What suddenly happened to the Gowon mantra of 'Go on with one Nigeria?' If we must win this war, we must learn to fly right. For when we leave our shore to foreign land we are all Nigerians. No one gives a hoot if we are from the north or south. Almajiris from the north are my brothers as far as they are Nigerians and the global community is involved. When CNN shows the pathetic plight of almajiris on TV, I feelthe shame just like every true Nigerian feels it. The hungry zamfara state workers are our people as well because they are Nigerians too. So their shame is our shame. Their humiliation is our humiliation.... We must learn to embrace the people who tell us the truth even when it hurts....
We cannot continue like this...
Atiku did not lie,... Yes, we know these things.
